Slow Strategy Games Are Worth the Patience

Slow Strategy Games Are Worth the Patience

September 22, 2026 · Lena Hofmann

Fast games are easy to love and easy to forget. Slow strategy games are the opposite. They demand patience up front and then reward you for weeks.

Tideborn Command is a good example. The first session confused me, the interface felt dense, and I nearly dropped it. By the third session I was plotting shipping routes in my head while waiting for coffee.

That delayed payoff is exactly what makes these games worth recommending with a caveat. Give them a real hour before judging. Most strategy games are terrible at teaching themselves and great once they click.

If you've got the patience, few genres are as satisfying on a phone during a quiet evening.
